So ends Never Mind the Mainstream, the tiny college radio station show that blew up to capture the attention of so many people around the world (that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but hey, I'm on a roll). It's all over. Kaput. Done. D-d-d-done. I apologize for posting this almost two weeks after the show originally aired, but believe me, my post-college life has been just as intense as my college career was, only now I have to worry about my two jobs. Not fun. Enough about me, let's dive into the music. Just look at that playlist. If you've been an avid follower of NMTM since it's beginning, then there is no way in hell you would have expected us to choose and play the tunes that we did. There's a lot of classic rock, mixed in with some legendary alternative rock anthems and indie rock gems. It truly was a great "mixx". Being that it may have been my final radio gig ever (God, I really hope not), I decided to pull the plug on our normal format, and play what many people may or may not have expect from me: some of my favorite songs of all time. "Spirit Of '76," "Money For Nothing," "Light My Fire," and "I Saw Her Standing There". I could not survive without those hits. They mean the world to me and each one is backed with a compelling story. Jim matched up my choices with some solid picks of his own, and together, like always, we put out a terrific broadcast. Our callers were ecstatic to be on the air for the grand finale and we thank them more than they will ever know. We also want to thank those who stopped in (all our fellow on-air personalities and close friends) and those who messaged us on AOL Instant Messenger. As we've been saying since day one, our fans make our show the great product that it truly is. Jim, the new president of the station, will be on the airwaves with 88.3 FM KUR this summer, so make sure you check out the website for his dates and times. I will be working my tail off, trying to make it as a professional somewhere in the real world. "This one's optimistic." Jim and I would like to thank every single person, from the bottom of our hearts, who ever listened to our show, promoted our show, and/or believed in us. I can honestly say that college radio was the greatest part of my college tenor. A bigger and more emotional essay is still to come here on our blog: nevermindmainstream.blogspot.com, as soon as I get a chance to write everything down. Thank you all so, so much. Keep discovering new and interesting music, and we'll catch you, "left of the dial."

Morrissey Passed Out On Stage

Taken from CCN.com:

"London, England (CNN) -- British singer Morrissey was hospitalized overnight after reportedly collapsing on stage during a concert, medical officials said Sunday.

Morrissey was discharged about 1 p.m. (9 a.m. ET) on Sunday, "much improved," said Great Western Hospital manager Teresa Harding.

"He was admitted ... as a precautionary measure," she said, refusing to reveal anything further about his condition or the reason he was hospitalized."

Scary thought. We've lost too many entertainers this year -- we can't afford to lose another. But I imagine this was just a fluky thing. The Moz could have just been exhausted. I'm sure he's in good health; I mean, he's a vegetarian, anyway. Those people always seem to be in prime condition. Anyway, he's a workhorse and has plenty of plans and concerts coming up, so he'll be in tip-top shape for all those events. The man is still kick ass. Best wishes.

Weekend News (Elementary Edition)

Remember when you were growing up, attending grade school, watching ABC's TGIF line-up (Hangin' With Mr. Cooper/Boy Meets World combo was TV gold), and then writing on big, thick olive-colored paper at your desk on Monday mornings, describing your weekend adventures? ...Just me? Here's the NMTM version of what happened in the world of rock 'n' roll this weekend:

Over the weekend, Jared from Black Lips got in a scuffle with Nathan from Wavves in a New York City bar. Or so one side says. Afterwards, they both released semi-legitimate press releases about the incident, chock full of indie rock hatred and F-bombs. What a bunch of bad kids. More here. "I had fun. It was fun."

Passion Pit & Phoenix played two shows in Central Park. Jim’s brother attended the Saturday show. Oh man, I’m just thinking - they all could’ve gone and joined the Black Lips/Wavves brawl once the show was over. I guess they realized their age. More here. “I had fun. It was fun.”

Morrissey’s album cover for Swords was released. What’s he running from? A US tour date was announced, too, but all the shows are on the West Coast. Lame. “It was fun. I had fun.”

And finally, we updated this very blog with a post about our 25th show. Check it out! (You don't need a link, it's underneath this post.)

Moz, Corgan: New Release Plans

More releases! Is your head exploding yet? Classic alternative rock legends are coming out to play this month, I swear.

So Billy Corgan, ex-frontman of ex-real band Smashing Pumpkins, will drop a whopping 44 songs for FREE! The set is called Teargarden By Kaleidyscope and it's comprised of all unreleased Pumpkins tunes. They'll start coming out, one by one, at the end of October. It's free, so why not get it? More information at Pitchfork.

Moving onto Morrissey. He's announced that he's releasing a compilation set of B-sides. Some of them are live tracks. It'll be called Swords and it should be one many Moz fans will be dying to get their hands on. Here in the good ol' United States (America, you are not the world...), the compilation drops November 2nd. Again, more information, including the track list, is at Pitchfork.

Two of the biggest frontmen in two of the biggest alternative/indie bands of all time, releasing new material. We live in a beautiful world.

Kutztown Gets Sick

One thing that's truly negative about returning to college life is the spread of disease. College kids interact with each other so much that it's impossible not to get sick from each other. It's indeed inevitable. What really sucks, is that this whole "swine flu" business is causing a stir, and I'm sick with a cold right off the blocks. Lame, guys. Not the way I wanted to spend by my Labor Day Weekend. I'm not the only one though; other students are disappointed by being this sick this early in the semester. Make no mistake about it, unless your Superman, you will be affected by the common cold and it getting into your system. Here's some videos about being sick and how much it ruins your good time.
