Happy Birthday, Bruce Springsteen!

New Jersey's own Bruce Springsteen, The Boss, turned 60 today. Oh how we love him.

"You've always got to remember, rock and roll's never been about giving up. For me, for a lot of kids, it was a totally positive force...not optimistic all the time, but positive. It was never--never--about surrender."

And so I guess now is as good a time as ever to announce a new segment for our show: The Mighty Mighty Boss-Tune! (Clever, right?). We'll be playing a Springsteen song, EVERY SHOW, throughout the remainder of the semester. So that is definitely something to tune in for, along with our already significant line-up of great rock 'n' roll music.

Here are some music videos in honor of one of the coolest dudes in rock music history.

Bruce Springsteen - "Surprise, Surprise"

Bruce Springsteen - "Born To Run"

Bruce Springsteen - "Thunder Road"

Happy 60th, Bruuuuuuuuuce!!!

Happy (Belated) Birthday, MTV

Music Television was born on August 1, 1981 @ 12:01 AM. We're big critics of what MTV has become over the years here at NMTM. And why shouldn't we be? MTV as we loved it has died from a slow and painful death over time; a cancer of reality television and mind-numbing musical "talent". Sometimes it's hard to remember MTV's legacy, including it's prestigious past. For it was MTV that really did change the way people viewed music and television itself. All day, all night, all music video; seems like a dream to us now, right? Anyway, the 80's had the greatest music in my opinion and I will forever be envious of the great decade in music; and music television, of course. So Happy Birthday, MTV. You're 28. We wish you still had that childhood magic. Gone, but not forgotten.

"Ladies and gentlemen: Rock 'n' roll."
Oh, the glory days

Happy 4th Of July! (2 Days After The Hangover)

There's no point in being modest (we never have been, anyway): The United States of America is the greatest country in the world. No one can touch us Americans. We're just that damn awesome. Everything we do is so sweet and we pretty much rule the world. And it was our nation's birthday this past weekend, so happy birthday to "The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave". Suck it, all those who hate and certainly do not appreciate. Here's some great music videos about the U.S., a ton of American pride, and patriotic obnoxiousness. Enjoy:

The Alarm - "Spirit Of '76"

Davie Bowie - "Young Americans"
Jimmy Eat World - "Bleed American"

Simon & Garfunkel - "America"

Weezer - "Surf Wax America"

And of course...
God Bless America.

Happy Birfs, Jeff Beck

From Wikipedia: Mr. Jeff Beck was nominated for 2009 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was promptly chosen for induction for the April 4, 2009 ceremony.

He was inducted on this day by his good friend and fellow former Yardbirds guitarist, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

He was ranked the 14th on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Here's to one of rock and roll's greatest legends. Happy 65th Birfs.
