Indie Rock News (4/22/10)

(Photo taken from MySpace.com)

It's been a while since I've done a straight forward news post, even thought I rarely do any hard reporting on this site anyway. You know, some the links I post here aren't even that specific to the term "indie rock". However, I do get most of these stories from web sites that appeal to an alternative rock audience, so I'll keep calling these posts "Indie Rock News". Some interesting developments have happened since last Thursday. Mainly a lot of buzz has been going around about this year's Coachella festival, which looks to have a better line-up than Bonnaroo. Sucks to be on the east coast. So there's that, and some unfortunate and untimely deaths, which isn't good. And hey, how about this volcano in Iceland? That thing really caused some travel problems. Okay, here are some of the headlines making waves in the world of popular music.
  • Broken Social Scene to release a bonus EP with new record.
  • The Flaming Lips bring Pink Floyd's "Breathe" to Fallon.

Post-"Snowmageddon"/Thursday Night Notes

Snow sucks.

Friday night into Saturday midday was bad enough, but on top of that snow, we folks in Kutztown received a fresh blanket Tuesday night into Wednesday midday. 28 inches total? I've seen enough snow. I'm moving to Florida. Perhaps the only thing good to come from the "Snowmageddon" was the outlandish and totally welcomed two full school days canceled. This kind of thing never happens, especially here in Pennsylvania. Whatever, no complaints from me about that. However, digging my jeep out the street sure wasn't fun earlier tonight. Sorry to the community of Kutztown for pushing my snow back out into the street. I had to get to the Student Union building to plan our show for tomorrow night. Oh, and while we were buffeted with white powder, my housemates and I built an epic snow fort and invited all our friends up to christen it. We also drank excessively and threw our empties in the woods. College kids will be college kids. Okay, onto the notes:

+ Holy Spring tours!: Arctic Monkeys, Juilan Casablancas, Phoenix, and The Tallest Man On Earth.

+ New Japandroids tune: "Art Czars".

+ New live She & Him track. It was played on the radio. How fun.

+ Yeasayer played Jim's favorite tune of 2009 on Fallon last night. Behold "Ambling Alp".

+ Thom Yorke is going to remix Major Lazer?

+ Bonnaroo line-up looks great so far.

+ Grizzly Bear and Arcade Fire found their way into the ears of Super Bowl viewers. Google had a sick ad, too.

The Blink Tour Is Go!

Blink 182 kicked off their reunion tour a few days ago in Vegas. We are so pumped that they are back together and hitting the road again. MTV's got the coverage because they were there, unlike us. So check it out here. Apparently, they still sound great and put on a killer show (and don't worry, they haven't matured past spitting out obscenities on stage). I'm seeing them August 26 in Holmdel, New Jersey, with Taking Back Sunday and Weezer, so I could not be more excited. Enjoy the video clip. Peace.

"Couldn't Wait For The Summer At The Warped Tour..."

A concert review is coming shorty to NMTM, sometime within the week, all about Sunday's epic Warped Tour, which roared from Oceanport, NJ. The 15th anniversary of the tour stopped in South Jersey this weekend, and though the show had it's fair share of really, really awful bands, the older generation hard rockers and ska outfits brought a whole new dimension of respect and awesomeness to the once master showcase of alternative music. Streetlight Manifesto, NOFX, Less Than Jake, Big D & The Kids Table, Flogging Molly, and Bad Religion dominated the day and pictures and videos are on the way. Keep it here!
