*Background music consisted of various cult classic tunes from the 1980s. They ranged from The Cure to New Order, from cheesy to epic, covering multiple genres.

Once again, NMTM proves its commanding validity by bringing new music to the masses, even on a medium like college radio. This week, the rock 'n' roll duo of Jim Adair and myself (but more Jim) spun a profusion of new tunes from some of the biggest names in the game: Cold War Kids, She & Him, Gorillaz, Broken Bells, Fionn Regan, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, and much more. Older numbers had a strong showing, too: Hunters & Collectors, Meat Puppets, Echo & The Bunnymen, and The Church. We also felt it appropriate to honor a rock legend who passed away this week, Alex Chilton of The Box Tops, Big Star, and himself as a solo artist. Thank you for your years of great music, Mr. Chilton. Our return to the airwaves from Spring Break proved righteous to our fans, despite the beautiful northeastern weather that was calling so many of us away from our radios. Spring is now in session. Next week, Jim's got the show to himself for the first hour while I attend to a few graduation-required comprehensive exams. Weak. But we'll reunite for hour two and really kill it as we finish up the final show of March. Tune in next week for another great set.

*Background music consisted of various hip-hop, rap, and R&B tunes from the late 1990s and early 2000s. We busted out everything from dance club anthems to sensual slow jams. They ranged from Big Punisher to Will Smith. We had a little too much fun with these.

While patiently awaiting Snow-pocalypse 2010, the men from Never Mind the Mainstream had quite the mix for their audience. Hour one consisted of plenty of new music via The Cribs, Kings Of Convenience, Wilco, The xx, and Tegan & Sara. Hour two specialized in singer/songwriters the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elliott Smith, Lou Reed, and Ryan Adams. We also threw in our usual segments for all our dedicated listeners out there. In the end, the snow did not manage to ruin our show and we both made it out of the station in one piece. Kutztown is expecting to see even more snow in the middle of this week, so we're hoping it's enough to get us out of classes, but melts in time for us to bring you our thirty-seventh installment of NMTM: 2010 Valentine's Day Edition! The first hour will feature some of the most romantic and heartfelt alternative and indie rock songs in the history of the world, while hour two will appeal to all the love cynics in Radioland, as we will spin a variety of break-up tunes. No matter who you are, you will fall in love with our show next week. Thanks again for tuning in/calling in/IMing us. Tune in next week for another great set.

Pavement To Reunite!

We usually don't report on rumors (yes we do) but since Brooklyn Vegan reported this yesterday and Pitchfork and Stereogum have posted it, we figure if it's false blame, it can fall on those guys. However, the word on the 'nets is quintessential 90's indie band Pavement is reuniting for possibly 4 shows, although the first one wouldn't happen until this time next year.

After releasing five studio albums in the 90's (including two of the decade's best with Slanted And Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain) the band officially split in 2000. Ever since, fans have been clamoring for a reunion, even The National mentioned it in the lyrics for their 2009 track "So Far Around The Bend" ("You've been humming and I think it's forever/praying for Pavement to get back together"). Now it seems it has actually come true.

Let's just hope The Smiths are next.

Say what you will about Pitchfork, (and I do...often) but they know how to put on a great festival. They are just now beginning to upload the videos from 2009's edition and this video of one of the best songs of the last ten years is a particular standout. Enjoy, and keep an eye on singer Matt Berninger, it's like playing Where's Waldo.
