In the midst of some of alternative rock's most notable player's putting out new material (Beck, Foo Fighters, Jack White, etc.), 90's grunge lords Pearl Jam is gearing up to release their upcoming record Backspacer in late September. The legendary Seattle band recently re-released Ten, a definitive record that I'm sure anyone who's reading this has already heard of. But prior to the anniversary of their debut record, the most recent Pearl Jam release was in 2006, with their self-titled LP. So needless to say, it's been awhile since we've heard some new PJ music (other than Eddie Veder's solo projects). So now we're faced with "The Fixer", lead single off the new one. It world-premiered not too long ago on the radio/internet and it's getting steady airplay (as it should). I was always a late bloomer to the grunge bands of the early 90's, but the new material put out by bands like Dinosaur Jr. and Jane's Addiction are making me wish I jumped on sooner. This new song is solid, folks. Nothing monumental, just a steady reminder that one of the most popular bands of the past 25 years can still make great music and put newer bands to shame.Pearl Jam - "The Fixer"
